Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 2, 2026 · Applies to the VivaRemind (elder) and VivaRemind Caregiver Android apps and this website.

The short version: we collect only what the reminder service needs, we process voice entirely on the phone, we never sell data, and we show no ads.

1. Who we are

VivaRemind ("we", "us") provides voice-first medication reminders for older adults with a companion app for family caregivers. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected].

2. Data we collect

Caregiver app

DataWhy we collect it
Email address and password (via Firebase Authentication)To create and secure your caregiver account. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see or store them ourselves.
Display name (optional)Shown to the elder's device so they know who is caring for them.
Language preference (English or Spanish)To send you alerts in your language.
Medication information you enter — names, doses, instructions, schedulesThis is the service: it is synced to the paired elder's device to drive reminders. This is health-related information — see section 5.
Push notification tokenTo deliver missed-dose alerts to your device.
Subscription state (via Google Play Billing)To unlock premium features you have purchased. We receive entitlement status from Google Play — never your payment card details.

Elder app

DataWhy we collect it
An anonymous account identifier (Firebase Anonymous Authentication)The elder never creates an account or provides an email. A random identifier links their device to their caregiver after pairing.
Display name (optional) and language preferenceShown to the paired caregiver; selects the reminder language.
Dose events — whether each scheduled dose was confirmed, snoozed, or missed, and whenTo show the caregiver adherence history and trigger missed-dose alerts. This is health-related information — see section 5.
Push notification tokenReserved for service messages related to pairing and care.

3. Microphone and voice — processed on the phone only

The elder app asks for microphone permission so your loved one can answer a reminder by speaking ("yes", "ya la tomé", "later"). Voice is processed entirely on the device using Android's built-in speech recognition:

4. What we do NOT collect

5. Health-related information

Medication names, doses, schedules, and dose history are health-related personal information. We use them for exactly one purpose: operating the reminder and caregiver-monitoring service you asked for. They are shared only between the elder's device, the caregiver(s) that the elder's device was explicitly paired with, and our data processor (Google Firebase — see section 6). We do not use health information for advertising, profiling, or any secondary purpose, and we never sell it.

VivaRemind is a support tool, not a medical device or a healthcare provider, and it is not intended for medical diagnosis or treatment.

6. Where your data lives and who processes it

Data is stored in Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Cloud Functions), operated by Google LLC, acting as our data processor. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest in Google's data centers. Access between accounts is enforced server-side by Firestore Security Rules: a caregiver can only see data for elders whose devices completed pairing with a one-time code, and only the elder's own device can record dose events.

We share data with no one else. We never sell personal data and never share it with advertisers or data brokers.

7. Retention and deletion

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g., under GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your personal data. Email [email protected] and we will honor these requests for all users, wherever you live. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children

VivaRemind is designed for older adults and their adult caregivers. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. For material changes, we will also notify caregivers in the app before the change takes effect.
